Maine - 2003
Up North in the Down East
Sarah was invited to a weeklong seminar to be held in Maine during the first week of June. To celebrate our 25th year anniversary, we began our vacation with a side trip to Boston. After a few days in Beantown we drove up to Maine, to the Asticou Inn at Northeast Harbor, near Acadia National Park.
The view of Northeast Harbor from the back of the Inn.
While Sarah was busy with her meetings, Kermit went hiking up the rocky hills of Mount Desert Island. In many places you can still see the deep scratches in the granite rocks left by glaciers. Here is Kermit atop Cedar Swamp Mountain, which obviously was not named by the local tourist bureau.
Lee and Jeff with Sarah on one of our tours into the harbor. We saw an enormous eagle's nest and plenty of seals. Another day, Kermit went kayaking around the coast and into a fjord.
On our final day, Sarah and I toured around Mount Desert Island on our own.
The shoreline is wonderfully rugged and beautiful.
We finished our jaunt with afternoon tea. The view out back is very pretty on clear days. We got a great view of the fog rolling in.
